Welcome to EIS Middle School!

Middle School is a fun, but challenging stage of development, and we recognize and celebrate the needs of our students during these years. Our students need a learning environment that stimulates and challenges development and curiosity, and one that also supports complex social and emotional growth. Through our academic and co-curricular offerings, we cultivate in students a strong sense of belonging and a healthy self-esteem, so that they can advocate for themselves and recognize the important contributions they can make in their community.
Our Middle School teachers are experts in addressing the unique needs of 11-15 year olds. The desire for more independence, but also the need to belong is an example of one of the many contradictory emotions that our students experience. During this transitional time in their lives, we work to help students understand and manage their emotions and develop essential skills for life.
We believe a strong partnership with parents is essential in helping our students to navigate the middle school years. Open communication is critical and teachers, administrators, learning support specialists, and counselors welcome and invite conversations with parents.

Sincerely,
Brian Sturgeon

Goal 1
Community and Communication

We will create and cultivate a community supported by accessible and effective communication, which is essential in a fast-paced and information-rich world. We strive to provide our community with timely and accurate information to enrich their experiences at EIS and their connections within the community.

Educational Excellence

The key to the success of our school’s mission is the commitment to an outstanding program that teaches our students to think critically, to communicate clearly, to collaborate effectively, and to contribute meaningfully as students and citizens. While developing the self awareness and self-confidence needed to engage with the intellectual, emotional, and social tasks before them, our students must be challenged and supported by a talented faculty that is well trained, creative, and committed to our mission and program.

Character and Leadership

We recognize the value of promoting in our students a sense of empathy, cultural understanding and the obligation to serve others. Students must participate in authentic and meaningful service opportunities and learn the elements of effective leadership skills. We must extend the walls of our classrooms to our city and create young adults with a commitment to responsible participation in the world around them.

We seek to promote in our students a sense of life outside the classroom. We guide and assist our students in realizing their potential, celebrating diversity, and cultivating a respect of the environment through comprehensive counseling services, a diverse selection of athletics and activities, and a school-wide articulated health and wellness program.

Effective Space to Meet Future Needs

We must provide the proper facilities for flexible instruction, a sense of community, program integration, physical education, the arts and athletics. Our goal is to improve our facilities so as to enhance our environmental performance. Our facilities must be of a standard to support the school’s current programs and future aspirations. Inviting and attractive facilities inspire a higher level of learning and engagement within the community, and we will take thoughtful and deliberate steps to enhance and expand these environments.

Media and Technology

We will prepare students for success in a technology and media-driven world, we will strive to incorporate modern technology and media into the classroom, integrate technology and media into training and the curriculum, and provide state-of-the-art web services to enhance communication and parent involvement in the learning process – all within a safe, ethical and ecologically friendly environment.
