welcome to eis
elementary school!

Dear Prospective Families & Teachers, At EIS we work together to instill a lifelong love of learning in all our students and are happy for them to join our vibrant, engaged, family and successful community. As a Primary principal, I am honored to have the opportunity to lead such a wonderful division, filled with persevering students, an extremely dedicated staff, and a collaborative school community. Beyond fostering academic excellence, our educators work to develop strong, positive, and lasting relationships with each of our students. We strive to help students reach their personal best and thrive during their time with us by balancing academic rigor, social-emotional well-being, and student independence. We are proud of all our students, who upon graduation continue their education at the universities of their choice. With their preparation throughout their years at EIS, they possess a drive to excel and positively influence society and are prepared to take on leadership roles in a complex and ever-changing world. Alumni often describe their school as “their second home.” As a team, community, and family, at EIS we feel privileged that you have entrusted us with your child’s education. We are committed to providing them with an outstanding education and to always strive for excellence. Sincerely, Mrs. Rhina Briceno

Elementary

The EIS Elementary School is Proud
of this blended, holistic approach.

Having pride in who we are, and what we stand for is a very important component of being an EIS community member, being a Bulldog. As our students leave the ECC and Enter Elementary, they are transitioning from being a Bulldog pup, to becoming a young Bulldog. What this means for our young people is that they develop skills and attitudes that help them work towards being Contributing Citizens, Respectful Relationship Builders, Innovatives Creators, Rational Problem Solvers and Compelling Communicators, a complete and Balanced Learner and person.

The EIS Elementary School is Proud
of this blended, holistic approach.

We combine Character, Competencies and Content knowledge in a student centric model that nurtures, builds trust and supports our students and their families and they develop and progress through their educational journey.

CURRICULUM

Here at EIS we have a blended curriculum. We applyCommon Core standards emphasizing on foundationslearning skills. We also apply an integrated, morecontemporary and student centered approach. Teachingand learning is a process and thus should not be siloed instand alone topics and assessments. For this process to beorganic and truly student it needs to be a collaborativeeffort with consistent content delivery methodologies andpractices (pedagogies). To best support our learners, their needs, their passions, their health, their minds and their goal, our teachers plan as teams. Collaborative planning time is scheduled each Wednesday afternoon and teachers also work together each morning before classes start. The outcome of collaborative planning is consistency in pedagogy. This means all students, no matter which class they are in, which teacher they are with are experiencing learning in the most up to date method, with the most up to date resources available. From Grades 1-5, collaborative “Modules” have been developed. Modules are centered around a project based inquiry model where students have the freedom to “ask, find, share and evaluate their own perspectives and personal learning. Ensuring a well rounded, well mastered foundational learning experience for all students, we strive to secure the best possible teachers, the best possible resources and the best possible partnerships with family.

FACILITIES AND
OPPORTUNITIES

Elementary students at EIS have purpose built facilities to encourage motor skills and physical development. Such facilities include a gym that has two basketball courts and can cater to Volleyball, futsal and less traditional sports. There is an outdoor, real grass field students use primarily for soccer, track and field and general outdoor fun and games. There are also purpose built age appropriate playgrounds. STEAM and Science labs are utilized daily, to make our contemporary projects and inquiry based experiences come alive. Our amazing library is a space where thematic learning is linked with literacy initiatives. Our library staff collaborates with, and supports, all grade levels and special projects. Integrated into the Elementary Curriculum is a specific focus on Literacy and Numeracy. Literacy is a foundational learning competency and EIS recognises this. Reading and Writing workshops are commonplace and ‘part of what we do’. Numeracy intervention is utilized to support students in learning skills and capabilities that engage learners and support the next learning steps they need to advance in their pursuit of knowledge. The EIS Elementary School is one where our young learners have the freedom to express themselves, the safety to try new things and the support to build from mistakes and turn them into learning experiences. We are well resourced, our teachers are world class. Our strategic direction and student centered approach thrusts us to the front of the pack in terms of innovative and engaging learning experiences.
